Portable Optical Fiber Identifier Utilizes Macro Bending Technology

July 26th, 2012 Posted inGAO Comm News

Toronto, CanadaGAO Comm has announced the release of its portable optical fiber identifier which is an essential tool in the installation and maintenance of fiber networks. It is ideal for the maintenance of telecommunication and CATV systems and other fiber optics networks.

This easy-to-use optical fiber identifier, model C0230002, features easy-to-use “ONE KEY” operation, low bending loss, highly efficient output and mechanical damp design of adapter heads to ensure no fiber damage. It employs safe and reliable macro bending technology to avoid disruption of network communications that would normally be caused by disconnecting or cutting a fiber optic cable for identification and testing.

Using an Ø1mm InGaAs detector, it efficiently identifies the traffic direction and signal frequency including 270 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz with an audible indicator which activates an intermittent tone in the presence of traffic. It also identifies the wavelength range of 800 to 1700 nm and displays the core power of the fibers from -50 to 0 dBm. It provides easy-to-replace adapter heads of Ø0.25, Ø0.9, Ø2.0, and Ø3.0 to match various optical cables. The optical fiber identifier is encapsulated within a durable metal housing and is powered by a 9 V alkaline battery.

This portable optical fiber identifier belongs to GAO’s family of Optical Fiber Identifiers. This line also has another similar product Compact Fiber Optic Identifier which is intended for engineers and technicians to identify dark or live fiber and excessive losses due to misalignment of mechanical splices or poor connections.

Handheld Optical Variable Attenuator

July 19th, 2012 Posted inGAO Comm News

Toronto, CanadaGAO Comm is offering its handheld optical variable attenuator which is used with single-mode fiber for continuously variable optical signal attenuation. Featuring a rugged design, portability and ease-of-use, the attenuator is commonly used in fiber link certification, routine maintenance and in lab environments.

This optical variable attenuator, model C0270001, features on line attenuation,  stepwise attenuation of 0.05 dB steps, low battery indication and an auto-off function. It combines the functionality of both an attenuator and an optical power meter and allows users to set the output power level directly thus improving the overall testing efficiency. It is ideal for such applications as telecom maintenance, CATV maintenance, comprehensive cable construction systems, optical instruments research and development, and optical communication training.

The attenuator can be used in digital system communication devices such as PHD and SDH and also in analog modulation CATV systems. It works with typical 9/125 single mode fibers and offers FC and PC interchangeable connectors for selection. The attenuator provides an attenuating wavelength range from 1260 to 1650 nm at an accuracy of ±0.8 dB and a wide measurement range from 2.5 to 65 dB. Calibrated wavelengths are 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1625 nm.

This handheld optical variable attenuator belongs to GAO’s family of Fiber Optic Instruments. This line also includes Multi-function Optical Time Domain Reflectometer which can be used for testing in a variety of fiber optic applications including WDM, MAN, FTTH and LAN network, Handheld Visible Laser Source which is used to find fiber faults and is suitable for single mode and multi mode fiber, and Compact Fiber Optic Identifier which is intended for engineers and technicians to identify dark or live fiber and excessive losses due to misalignment of mechanical splices or poor connections.
